FAQs
Can I apply online?
Yes go to the Apply page for details
Why is the letter of application important?
Headteachers will want to know about your enthusiasm and motivation for the teaching profession. Headteachers will look for outstanding practitioners, and it gives you the opportunity to let them know about YOU, rather than just giving facts. This is your opportunity to sell yourself to the headteachers. This should include:
- your motivation for teaching
- any relevant experiences
- examples of delivering teaching and learning from your teaching practice
Who will interview me?
Headteachers will contact you directly to arrange an interview. There are no separate pool interviews.
How do I obtain a reference?
There is a letter you can download on the Apply page which you should hand to your ITT tutor at the time of your application for completion. Your tutor should return it to us separately. A second reference will also be required from your second placement school. This may be submitted after you submit your application should the placement not have taken place at the time of your application.
Is there a closing date for applications?
No. However, to ensure a greater choice of schools it is recommended you submit your application as soon as possible, as some schools may start looking for NQTs from January.
What help is there for housing?
Essex, Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock teachers are able to take advantage of the latest Government initiative called the Home Buy Scheme. When can I start?
Most schools will commence your employment in September. However, it is possible that some schools may be able to offer you an ‘early start’ in June/July once your course has finished. Please check with the individual school at the time of your interview.
Can I apply direct to individual schools even if I am part of the recruitment pool?
Yes, you may also apply to individual schools. Your completed pool application form can be forwarded to an individual school on request. Please contact the Essex School Workforce Recruitment Team as detailed on the 'How to apply' pages.
