Teach in Essex, Southend-on-sea or Thurrock

Thurrock

Thurrock’s approach to your induction year is designed to be supportive, varied and comprehensive to help you become the best teacher you can be. Your year will start with a welcome day, where you can meet key Local Authority officers and other new teachers. Your school will match you with an induction tutor who will offer you support and guidance. You’ll also be given an induction portfolio and support programme, including observations of other teachers, visits to other schools and opportunities for in-service training and courses offered by the LA.

You’ll be observed teaching during the course of your induction year and you’ll have reviews with your tutor. These observations will help you develop as a teacher – you’ll get feedback about what’s going well and guidance on how you can develop.

Even beyond your induction year, we’ll continue to offer you full support for your professional development. We realise how important it is to you to have a manageable workload, a good work/life balance and opportunities to grow professionally. We offer a series of dedicated professional development opportunities through our training schools for secondary phase NQTs and a programme of courses for primary phase NQTs.

There’s also a dedicated NQT helpline that will put you in touch with the team of people in Thurrock who are working to support all our newly qualified teachers.

‘They helped me set up my classroom, taught me about classroom management and gave me lots of ideas.’ - Nistee Jangali, Little Thurrock Primary School
